The Secure Extensible Mobile Transaction Platform (SEMOTRAP) is a unique product that unleashes the
potential of any Java compatible handset to enable secure transactions over cheap means such as SMS
or even GPRS for high end applications. When we talk of transacting over mobile, the immediate reaction
we have seen is is this secure? And why not; after all you are going to transmit your personal
or corporate data over the air. What if someone hacks into the packets?
Okay, so here is how we handled it. First of all we stepped into Customer’s shoes and questioned
ourselves and we were able to find out key traits of a mobile application, such as Security,
Extensibility, Transactional, Scalability, Size, Communication and Traceability. And we were convinced,
unless we have a mobile application that meets all the above requirements, we ourselves wouldn't use a
mobile device for any kind of transactions. Hence we developed SEMOTRAP that encompasses all of the above.
SEMOTRAP is a mobile platform (we call it a platform, not an application because of its infinite
possibilities to build applications!), that enables you build applications for several uses such as
m-banking, m-ticketing, m-tracking, m-learning and m-anything.
SEMOTRAP is built as a client that sits with a very small footprint on the mobile handset, and yet
has all the security ingredients such as encryption, multi-pin authentication; extensibility ingredients
such as dynamic forms, remote deployment; and communication ingredients that gives users the
flexibility to use SMS, GPRS, EDGE or Wi-Fi for transacting.
On the server side we have an abstract engine, which we call our Request Processing Engine;
or RPE for short. This acts as a bridge between the dynamic applications residing on the handset and
the backend systems such as Core Banking, ERP Systems, Billing Systems, and Education Environments and so on.
