Posters of the Glorious Scientists of India
From time immemorial, Mother India has been the land of knowledge. In fact, the word ‘Bharat’
itself connotes the society that is joyfully engaged in the pursuit of knowledge. In ancient
times, pursuit of knowledge covered both spiritual knowledge and scientific knowledge and these
two were seen as the two sides of the same coin. It is here some of the most profound questions
have been asked about the nature of reality by some of the greatest minds in Science and Spirituality.
The recent research shows that mathematical astronomy, geometry, algebra and other sciences arose
first in India. India’s widely known contribution to the world is the concept of Zero and the
Decimal Number System. It is much less known that important concepts such as that of earth’s
gravity, atom, asepsis, binary numbers, permutation and combination, etc. arose in India several
centuries before their rediscovery in the West.
We find that the ancient Indians were greatly interested in algebra, trigonometry, astronomy as
well as in the basic sciences such as physics, chemistry and life sciences. They were also aware
of what we see as today’s advancements of sciences. Unfortunately, due to a series of foreign
invasions, this wealth of India got masked and hence many of India’s great achievements in sciences
are absolutely unknown to today’s younger generation.
It is now widely believed that the 21st century belongs to India. We wish our younger generations
to know India’s great scientists and instill aspiration in them to become the next generation greats.
As a first step towards this mission, we have developed posters of 47 such great Indian scientists of all times.
The primary objective of this series of posters is to familiarize the readers with great achievements
of Indian Science and Indian Scientists from ancient times (5000 years back) till present times to
instill in them the national pride that will inspire them to perform their historical role of building
India as the leading nation of the world in the 21st century.
